Police on the 1st released the identity of the suspect in the murder of a Chinese female exchange student in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, a case in which the body was dismembered and dumped at sites across the country.
The North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, following a review by its identity disclosure committee, released the name, age and mug shot of the suspect, Jung Chang-sung, 31. The information will remain posted from that day through the 1st of next month.
Jung, a Chinese national, is accused of murdering a 25-year-old Chinese female exchange student, identified only as A, in the early hours of the 20th at his studio apartment in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan. A had attended a class taught by Jung, according to police. Jung also faces charges of desecrating a corpse after allegedly dismembering the body and dumping remains in Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang Province and Gunpo in Gyeonggi Province.
Police arrested Jung on a street in Hayang-eup at around 7:29 p.m. on the 25th of last month. They then sought an arrest warrant, citing the risk that he would destroy evidence or flee, and the court granted it. Jung has partially admitted to the allegations in questioning, police said.
Police have applied five charges against Jung, including murder, desecration, abduction and concealment of a corpse, and obstruction of official duties by deception. They plan to send the case to prosecutors before the 5th of this month.
