Police will disclose the identity of a Chinese university lecturer arrested on charges of killing a Chinese female international student who had taken his class in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province, and dismembering her body before dumping the remains in several parts of the country.
The North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency said it convened a review committee on the disclosure of personal information on the afternoon of the 31st for Jung, a 31-year-old suspect in the killing of a Chinese female international student in Gyeongsan, and decided to release his name, age and mug shot.
The committee said it weighed the brutality of the crime, the gravity of the harm, the sufficiency of the evidence gathered and the public interest in crime prevention.
The information will be posted on the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency website from 9 a.m. on the 1st of next month and will remain online for 30 days.
Jung, a Chinese national, is accused of murdering a 25-year-old Chinese female international student identified only as A in his studio apartment in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, in the early hours of the 20th. The student had taken a class taught by Jung, according to police. He also faces a charge of destroying a corpse for dismembering the body and dumping the remains in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, and Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, among other locations.
Police arrested Jung on a street in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, at about 7:29 p.m. on the 25th. They then sought an arrest warrant, citing the risk that he would destroy evidence or flee, and the court granted it. Jung has partially admitted to the allegations in questioning, police said.
Police have applied five charges against Jung, including murder, destruction, abduction and concealment of a corpse, and obstruction of official duties by deception. They plan to send the case to prosecutors before the 5th of next month.
