MUAN — Muan County in the Gwangju-South Jeolla integrated special city is positioning itself as a hub for future industries in the southwestern region through its designation as a candidate site for the Muan Distributed-Energy National Industrial Complex, spanning 1.05 million pyeong (about 3.47 million square meters).
The county said on the 25th that the complex is a project to build a future-oriented industrial park linking energy and industry, drawing on abundant renewable energy resources and a wide-area transport network that includes Muan International Airport, roads and railways.
Muan County plans to cluster high-growth industries at the complex, including semiconductor materials, parts and equipment, new energy businesses, precision manufacturing and logistics. The goal is to build a semiconductor supply chain across the Honam region in tandem with Gwangju's semiconductor national industrial complex, and to develop the site as a key base for strengthening industrial competitiveness in the southwestern region.
The county will also actively pursue corporate demand and investment to ensure the complex's success. It plans to keep expanding letters of intent to move in and business agreements, and to strengthen recruitment efforts to turn these into anchor-company deals and actual investment. Muan also aims to boost logistics competitiveness by leveraging the location advantages of Muan International Airport and the wide-area transport network, developing the site as a distributed-energy industrial base that supports advanced-industry supply chains in the southwestern region.
County Governor Kim San said the county will push forward without setbacks on attracting companies, expanding investment and improving living conditions to make Muan a place "where businesses come and young people return." He added that the county will focus all its capabilities on ensuring the national industrial complex leads to a revitalized local economy and the creation of quality jobs.
Building on the candidate-site designation, Muan County will concentrate its administrative resources on advancing the complex's follow-up procedures, attracting companies and expanding infrastructure. The county also plans to accelerate the creation of a future-industry ecosystem in the southwestern region that connects Gwangju's semiconductor industry with Muan's distributed-energy, materials-and-components and logistics sectors.
