DAEJEON — The Korea National Railway (KR) said it will run a 60-day call for a project operator starting August 25 to develop a mixed-use complex at Digital Media City (DMC) Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line.
The project site covers 5,598.7 square meters. The authority aims to use the station-area location and surrounding development conditions to build a complex space combining commercial, office and cultural functions, bringing new vitality to the northwestern part of Seoul.
The site was originally included in a higher-level district unit plan, but a revised notice in December 2024 reorganized it into a separate zone, allowing for independent project development and flexible planning.
DMC Station is a transfer hub where three lines intersect — Subway Line 6, the Airport Railroad and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line — giving it strong regional access to central Seoul, Incheon International Airport and major areas across the greater metropolitan region.
The area also offers favorable conditions for mixed-use development, with advanced industry hubs such as Sangam DMC and the Magok Industrial Complex nearby, along with large residential areas including the Hyangdong public housing district and Eunpyeong New Town.
Through the call, the authority plans to focus its review on proposals for a mixed-use development that combines commercial, office and cultural functions; a differentiated development plan that draws on the station-area location and the characteristics of idle railway land; and measures to secure regional revitalization, public benefit and business viability.
"Through the call for the Gyeongui Line DMC Station, we will raise the value of idle railway land and pursue a station-area mixed-use development project that balances public benefit and business viability," said Lee An-ho, acting chairman of the Korea National Railway.
