Seoul's Jongno District will open a Seoul-style kids' café called Sodam Nuri Playground on September 2, built on the former site of Cheongryong Kindergarten in Sungin 1-dong.
The playground is an indoor play space that can be used regardless of weather or fine dust levels. It was built at a total project cost of 966 million won ($697,000).
The first floor features play areas themed around alleyways, netting and media, while the second floor offers a play space modeled on old neighborhood courtyards. Children can also enjoy traditional games such as tuho (arrow throwing), yut nori and jegi chagi (Korean hacky sack). Four staff members, including safety managers and childcare workers, are on duty at all times.
The facility is open to children aged 0 to 9. It operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9:10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Admission is currently free, with a fee of up to 5,000 won per child planned for the future.
