Jang Dong-hyeok, leader of the main opposition People Power Party, strongly criticized the second housing debate held under Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, saying, "It is difficult to understand whose feelings they are trying to provoke by holding a prime minister-led debate."
Jang made the remarks at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 27th. "How can a prime minister who has nothing to say about real estate no matter what preside over a debate?" he said.
He particularly claimed, "Under the Lee Jae-myung administration, the record has already surpassed that of the Moon Jae-in government, which was the worst in history." He added, "In just one year, it has broken all the records of the five years of the Moon Jae-in government."
"The greatest damage is being suffered by the youth and ordinary people," he said. "The homeownership rate among young people stands at 27.6%, the worst on record. Compared to 2019, it has fallen by a full 13 percentage points."
He also pointed out, "The proportion of monthly rent has exceeded 54%, and monthly rents for villas and officetels have also surged. Yet the Lee Jae-myung administration has failed to come up with any measures. The president has virtually confessed that there are simply no measures at all."
"The end of real estate dictatorship is real estate hell," he said. "The end of real estate hell will become the hell of this administration."
Meanwhile, Jang is scheduled to attend the National Election Commission's election appeal deliberation on the same day and conduct oral arguments in person. Regarding this, he pointed out, "The NEC ultimately refused a live broadcast. It is hard to understand what more they are trying to hide by refusing."
He added, "The NEC refusing a live broadcast, the Democratic Party delaying the special counsel, the court that dismissed the warrant for the messenger conversations (exchanged among NEC staff), and everyone maintaining a complacent attitude toward this situation are all accomplices. The people will never forgive them."
