
Cheong Wa Dae said on the 25th that Korean companies and global big tech firms have agreed to pursue semiconductor cooperation worth a total of $950 billion, approximately 1,375 trillion won, on the occasion of the "San Francisco AI Summit" attended by President Lee Jae-myung. The parties also agreed to pursue cooperation on AI data center investment involving 2 million GPUs.
Kim Yong-beom, head of the Cheong Wa Dae policy office, held a briefing at a local press center in San Francisco that day and disclosed the major cooperation achievements made in the areas of semiconductors, AI data centers, and physical AI. "The (AI Summit) was arranged to combine the technology and capital of global big tech with the capabilities of Korea's entire AI ecosystem, including not only semiconductors but also AI infrastructure, models, and physical AI, in order to create investment and cooperation outcomes across the full AI stack," Kim said.
According to Kim, Samsung Electronics and Broadcom signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for foundry cooperation to supply advanced memory semiconductors and produce AI chips worth $200 billion (290 trillion won) over the next five years.
SK will pursue long-term supply cooperation for advanced memory semiconductors worth $750 billion (1,085 trillion won) over the next five years with global big tech firms including Nvidia. SK Telecom will pursue the construction and expansion of an AI data center of up to 2GW with Nvidia.
Naver signed a strategic investment agreement with Nvidia. "(Naver) will attract $1 billion in investment from Nvidia to expand GPU supply and technology cooperation, and through up to $9 billion in support from Brookfield, will jointly establish the stable infrastructure and supply chain needed to operate a gigawatt-class AI factory," Kim explained.
In addition, Hyundai Motor agreed to jointly build an "AI robot reference platform" with Nvidia, and announced an autonomous vehicle foundry plan with Waymo. Samsung SDS and Anthropic signed a strategic partnership agreement to jointly identify new AI markets and cultivate AI engineers together.
