As the Democratic Party pushes forward with a party-line revision to the Criminal Procedure Act that would abolish prosecutors' supplementary investigation authority, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok sharply criticized the move, saying "dismantling the prosecution will inevitably lead to the collapse of the regime."
Jang made the remarks on Facebook on the 25th, writing, "If they have even a shred of conscience, if they have even a fingernail's worth of concern for the nation and its people, they should abandon this even now."
He argued, "Left-wing legal professionals and even progressive civic groups are opposing it. Even Justice Minister Jung Sung-ho has staked his position to oppose it," adding, "It must be the final conscience of someone who has witnessed crime scenes."
He went on to criticize, "And yet the Democratic Party is only accelerating its reckless drive," calling it "a regime that fears only the 'gaeddal' but not the people." He added, "The Lee Jae-myung regime just does things first. They are the type who won't know whether it's excrement or soybean paste until they eat it."
Jang also targeted the recent economic policies of the government and ruling party. "After ruining the economy with the Yellow Envelope Act, they now say they will improve the system," he said, pointing out, "They turned the stock market into a gambling den with single-stock leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and then ordered others to 'supplement' it as if it were someone else's business."
He continued, "Dismantling the prosecution and abolishing supplementary investigation authority will end up the same way, but this time is different," emphasizing, "The tears of victims cannot be gathered back up, and once judicial justice collapses, rebuilding it is nearly impossible."
Jang stated, "The public's anger will dismantle the regime," adding, "and at that point, nothing will be able to 'supplement' it."
