President Lee Jae-myung's job approval rating stood at 46.3%, according to a poll released on the 27th.
In a survey conducted by Realmeter at the request of Energy Economy Daily from the 20th to the 24th of this month, covering 2,505 people aged 18 and older nationwide, positive assessments of Lee's handling of state affairs came to 46.3%, down 2.1 percentage points from the previous week.
Negative assessments stood at 49.5%, putting the gap between positive and negative ratings at 3.2 percentage points, within the margin of error (±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level). Those who answered "don't know" accounted for 4.2%.
Realmeter analyzed that "the rating appears to have continued its decline throughout the week as a combination of factors weighed in, including public backlash over real estate sentiment tied to the controversy over 'mortgage-lien transactions' of apartments in Bundang and remarks on strengthening property holding taxes, policy conflicts related to leveraged ETFs (exchange-traded funds) and supplementary investigation authority, and economic setbacks such as a sharp stock market drop."
In a party support survey conducted from the 23rd to the 24th, covering 1,001 people aged 18 and older nationwide, the Democratic Party recorded 41.3% and the People Power Party 40.6%. The Democratic Party fell 1.8 percentage points from the previous survey, while the People Power Party rose 0.6 percentage points. The Rebuilding Korea Party's support rating was 3.3%, the New Reform Party 2.2%, and the Progressive Party 1.0%. Other parties accounted for 2.0%, and unaffiliated voters for 9.6%.
Regarding the Democratic Party's support rating, Realmeter explained that "the rating appears to have declined as internal primary conflicts surfaced, including the controversy over national convention deposit fees and the dispute over alleged Shincheonji involvement, coupled with the burden of pushing through legislation in line with the party's move to abolish supplementary investigation authority."
On the People Power Party's support rating, it noted that "the party appears to have gained from the fallout of internal conflicts and policy confusion within the Democratic Party, while intensifying its offensive on issues such as supplementary investigation authority and the real estate special counsel, with its core support base in Daegu and North Gyeongsang, those in their 70s and older, and those in their 20s rallying behind it."
Both surveys were conducted using an automated response method with randomly generated numbers from wireless random sampling. The presidential job performance survey had a response rate of 3.6% and a sampling error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The party support survey had a response rate of 4.3% and a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
