VESSL AI said on Sept. 17 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Neo AI Cloud to cooperate on artificial intelligence data center infrastructure and a graphics processing unit platform business at a facility being built in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province.
The agreement aims to link the Pohang AI data center's underlying infrastructure with a GPU platform and commercialize the resulting services. The data center has been selected as the ninth project under a regional revitalization investment fund. North Gyeongsang Province is contributing 4 billion won ($2.9 million). With total project costs of 600 billion won ($431 million), the data center will be built at the Gwangmyeong Industrial Complex in Pohang's Nam district with a power capacity of 40 megawatts.
Under the agreement, Neo AI Cloud will handle the design, construction, permitting and build schedule management of the data center, as well as the operation and management of the GPU infrastructure. VESSL AI will develop and operate the GPU platform connected to the data center infrastructure. It will take charge of platform-based resource management, including GPU resource allocation, monitoring and scheduling, along with finding customers at home and abroad.
VESSL AI will provide Neo AI Cloud with the conditions and customer requirements needed to operate the GPU platform, starting from the construction phase of the data center. It will also support technical reviews to connect the data center infrastructure with the platform. The two companies will jointly pursue customer acquisition and commercialization. VESSL AI plans to identify potential customers in Korea and overseas that need GPU platforms and, in consultation with Neo AI Cloud, propose services based on the Pohang AI data center.
