
South Korean startups accounted for more than half of the finalist slots in an Nvidia-hosted competition pitting artificial intelligence developers across the Asia-Pacific region against one another.
Nvidia recently announced the 20 companies advancing to the Asia-Pacific finals of the Nvidia Inception Grand Challenge 2026, according to information technology industry sources on the 29th. Eleven of the 20 are Korean, a majority of the field. The Korean finalists are AIM Intelligence, Airbility, Didden Robotics, Enhans, Omelet, Filer, Real World, Team Sparta, TraceWeave, Tnaps and Wim. Officials inside Nvidia Korea were said to have been surprised by the strong showing of Korean startups this year.
The Nvidia Inception Grand Challenge is a startup technology competition hosted by the chipmaker, in which participants present AI solutions to problems on industrial sites. Entrants and award winners receive support including introductions to potential customers, mentoring from Nvidia and invitations to IT industry events. More than 10,000 startups across the Asia-Pacific region applied this year.
AIM Intelligence, one of the finalists, presented an end-to-end AI security and control framework at the Korean semifinals held on the 27th of this month. Its automated red-teaming platform, Stinger, probes for vulnerabilities and risky behavior in AI agents and physical AI environments, while a real-time AI security tool called Guardian detects and controls risks arising not only in AI inputs and outputs but also in tool calls, system execution and physical actions. Vulnerabilities that are found are folded into new control policies, and the applied controls are then subjected to fresh attack testing, creating a loop that strengthens the defense system.
Airbility showed off what it calls flying physical AI, which pairs AI with high-speed vertical take-off and landing drones. The intelligent aviation system detects airborne threats and responds by deploying drones suited to the mission. At the semifinals, judges pressed the company on how AI decisions translate into the actions of an actual aircraft and on the potential to expand into defense and disaster response.
Wim drew praise from the judges for Flem, an operating system that combines AI inference, real-time robot control and industrial communications on a single system-on-chip, along with the W-RC hardware controller that runs it. The W-RC is designed so that swapping out task modules on the same hardware platform allows it to be redeployed across a range of industrial sites, cutting the cost and time required to install robot control systems. Filer, which was named one of the top five companies at last year's competition, also returns to the final stage in a bid for a second win.
The final program will be held in Singapore on September 22. The 10 companies selected there will present their technology at global IT events and gain opportunities to pursue business with multinational firms. Top award winners will also receive about $30,000 (approximately 41 million won) in graphics processing unit credits.
