MDS Tech said on the 27th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Unicon, a developer of contactless data transmission semiconductors, to expand into autonomous driving, robotics and edge artificial intelligence.
Unicon is a fabless company that designs semiconductors for high-speed contactless data transmission. Under the agreement, the two companies will link MDS Tech's Nvidia edge AI chips with Unicon's ultra-high-speed wireless data transmission technology to verify whether the combination can be applied in self-driving vehicles and humanoid robots. MDS Tech will provide Nvidia-based testing environments and technical infrastructure, while Unicon will supply its contactless data transmission and related high-speed wireless technologies. Based on the results, the companies plan to jointly identify new businesses and service models in edge AI.
MDS Tech (086960) has been expanding into physical AI, including autonomous driving and humanoid robots, centered on Nvidia's Jetson edge AI chip. The company is working with Seoul National University's robotics institute to train specialists in the field and has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with SZ Sensing, an Nvidia partner.
An MDS Tech official said the partnership with Unicon would be a starting point for broadening collaboration with companies that hold specialized technologies needed to realize physical AI.
