Dong-A Pharmaceutical is stepping up its push into the dental care market with new products that strengthen the ingredients and functions of its mouthwash brand Gargarin.
The company said on the 26th that it had launched Advanced Zero, a next-generation lineup of eight mouthwash products under its dental care brand Gargarin.
Gargarin, which introduced Korea's first liquid mouthwash in 1982, has posted annual sales of more than 30 billion won ($22 million) for three consecutive years. It also ranked first in the mouthwash category in Gallup Korea's brand awareness survey for six straight years, from 2020 through last year.
The new products contain no ethanol or artificial coloring, reflecting consumer interest in mouthwash ingredients and usage experience. They offer six oral care functions, including inhibiting up to 99.99% of harmful bacteria, preventing cavities, removing bad breath, removing plaque, preventing gingivitis and cleansing the mouth.
The flagship product, Advanced Zero Original, showed an 81.7% reduction in bad breath 12 hours after use in a human application test. Compared with using a toothbrush alone, it reduced dental plaque 1.9-fold, and after two weeks of use it cut gingivitis by 56.4%.
The lineup consists of four types — Mild, Original, Strong and Blast — and four flavors — Lime Mint, Peach Mint, Yuja Mint and Spearmint.
A Dong-A Pharmaceutical official said the products were developed with both efficacy and the burden users feel during actual use in mind. "We will continue to introduce dental care solutions based on scientific evidence," the official said.
