KT (030200.KS) said on the 19th that it has launched a sovereign AI appliance that integrates a Korean-made artificial intelligence chip with its own large language model (LLM). The device lets companies build and run internal AI on a single system. It is expected to support the AI transition of regulated industries — including the public sector, defense, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and finance — where adopting foreign generative AI has been difficult because of network separation and security concerns.
The "KT NPU LLM Station" is an all-in-one product that combines "Atom Max," an inference-focused neural processing unit (NPU) from Korean AI chipmaker Rebellions, with KT's "Mi:dm K 2.5 Pro" LLM and an operating API platform. Built entirely with Korean technology — from the AI chip to the model and the operating platform — it allows customers to process data and run AI computations within their own premises. It can also be used for AI functions such as document-based question answering (RAG) immediately after installation, without any separate setup process.
KT plans to add its own AI agents in stages, including meeting-minutes drafting, coding support and a work-automation agent tentatively named "K-Clo." The company also intends to work with specialized agent developers to expand into customized deployment projects for clients. In edge data centers for physical AI, it plans to use the system to build low-power, low-latency AI infrastructure.
"The KT NPU LLM Station combines KT's full-stack AX capabilities with a Korean-made chip to make sovereign AI immediately usable on actual industrial sites," said Lee Jin-hyung, head of KT's AX Business Division. "It will be the most practical option for companies and institutions that want to begin their AI transition while protecting data sovereignty."
