KT and Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) will jointly build a medical AI transformation (AX) platform to apply artificial intelligence across patient care, nursing, research and hospital operations.
KT signed a memorandum of understanding with SNUH to build the medical AX platform at KT's Gwanghwamun West building in Jongno District, Seoul, the company said on the 17th.
The two sides plan to combine KT's medical AX strategy with SNUH's clinical expertise and research capabilities to develop innovative AI models for use in public healthcare. Medical AX goes beyond adopting individual AI tools for hospital tasks; it refers to building a system that links and uses data from patient care, nursing, research and administration on a single platform.
Key areas of cooperation include developing and applying a standard model for the medical AX platform; conducting the demonstration, refinement and commercialization of government policy projects such as the "AI Native hospital"; supporting AI-based clinical decision-making; improving the efficiency of medical work; and expanding into the healthcare market. The aim is to establish a standard platform that can be extended to other public healthcare institutions and to turn it into an actual business through research, development and field testing.
KT will take part in the entire process of the medical AX platform, which integrates AI, cloud and data, from planning and development to validation and commercialization. Drawing on expertise from its clinical, treatment and research settings, SNUH will identify tasks for the platform and handle medical consultation and effectiveness evaluation.
The two sides will also cooperate on the "group-wide integrated DX platform" that SNUH is pursuing. They plan to combine SNUH's clinical and AI research framework with KT's AX platform and infrastructure capabilities to create a medical AX ecosystem that organically links research and development, field testing and commercialization. Building on the agreement, KT plans to strengthen its medical AX business capabilities while expanding platform-based cooperation with medical institutions. Together with SNUH, it aims to develop innovative AI models for use in public healthcare and extend them to other medical institutions.
Kim Bong-kyun, executive vice president and head of KT's enterprise division, said, "KT is helping the AX efforts of various industries with proven AX platform technology and know-how." He added, "Starting with our cooperation with Seoul National University Hospital, we will build AI-based innovation models for the public healthcare market as well."
