
KT has built an artificial intelligence (AI) specialized data platform that can dramatically shorten the research and development (R&D) period for cosmetics. The company developed a research-specialized generative AI system based on the R&D assets Amorepacific has accumulated over some 70 years.
KT announced on the 28th that it completed the "Data Highway" project, which integrates and redesigns all data from Amorepacific's Research & Innovation (R&I) Center, and built an AI assistant called Lemon.
The two companies standardized structured and unstructured data scattered across various parts of the research center and redesigned the structure so that different data could be connected into a single context. This resolved the inconvenience of researchers having to search for information across multiple systems.
In fact, a beta test with researchers showed that research data and regulatory review tasks in the product planning stage, which previously took about 12 days, were shortened to about 5 minutes. The time to review the research history of a specific ingredient and its applicability to products was also greatly reduced from about 6 days to around 5 minutes. Using Lemon, researchers can now search and analyze materials needed not only for R&D but also for production, quality, and regulatory response tasks, and receive new exploration, discovery, and suggestions during the research process.
Amorepacific plans to expand digital transformation in the R&D field, including the introduction of AI agents, to help researchers reduce repetitive information search tasks. The aim is to allow them to focus on creative research such as establishing new hypotheses and technological innovation.
"Based on this development experience, we will actively support corporate AX across various industries including manufacturing, distribution, and services," KT Executive Director Roh Hyung-rae said. "Going forward, the AI platform will handle repetitive exploration and analysis, while researchers will focus on creative questions and innovation," Amorepacific Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Suh Byung-hwi emphasized.
