DAEJEON — Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung has adopted "Daejeon for All" as the city's vision for his new elected term and held a ceremony to launch it.
The city said it held the vision proclamation ceremony on the 17th at the main auditorium of City Hall, attended by about 500 people including the mayor, residents, city council members and public officials. The city said it shared its governing direction — "Daejeon for All, Happiness for Every Citizen" — with residents and pledged to carry out the vision together.
Huh presented the governing direction and vision himself. He set future growth, livelihood recovery and citizen sovereignty as three core values and laid out 10 strategies for the city government.
On future growth, he said the city would build up science, technology and innovation capacity as a new engine of growth and create a city where businesses and talent grow together, centered on artificial intelligence and future strategic industries.
On livelihood recovery, he pledged to provide firmer support for residents' lives and to work on reviving household livelihoods based on an economy of shared growth and inclusion.
On citizen sovereignty, he vowed to ensure that every resident can realize their potential through equal opportunity and participation, and to run a city government that decides and builds together with residents.
The 10 strategies are: future strategic industries completed through an AI transformation; commercialization of advanced technology and the creation of a startup hub; a carbon-neutral city responding to the climate crisis; a dense and robust local economy; living conditions convenient for everyone; a city enriched by arts and culture in daily life; stronger sports infrastructure tailored to users; a city of citizen sovereignty completed through participation and respect; guarantees of the right to pursue happiness across all life stages; and safe, convenient citizen-centered administrative innovation.
In the second part of the event, Huh read the vision proclamation together with resident representatives, followed by a performance built around the three core values.
"We will press ahead without wavering with investment in livelihoods and the future," Huh said. "We will not stop at declaring a vision. We will move quickly to deliver administration that residents can feel is working."
