UIJEONGBU — Gyeonggi Province said on the 9th that it has begun producing and distributing a monthly newsletter, "Livestock Product Safety Management News," that lets livestock product businesses and related agencies review hygiene and safety information in one place.
Until now, information on livestock hygiene policy, inspection results and legal revisions has been scattered across multiple agencies and websites, making it difficult for business operators to find what they need in time. The province chose to summarize key content on a single page and link to detailed materials by item.
The newsletter is issued monthly in three sections: provincial notices, news and publicity, and legal revisions. The provincial notices section carries provincial guidance and seasonal inspection plans, while the news and publicity section covers hygiene inspection results, the status of testing institutions, and livestock product price and sales trends. The legal revisions section carries changes to notices and statutes that operators need to know, along with advance notices of legislation.
The September issue includes a manual on product manufacturing reports for livestock processing businesses, produced by the province itself, and an inspection plan for livestock products heavily consumed during the Chuseok holiday. It also carries results of inspections at businesses handling livestock products and dairy goods heavily consumed in summer, as well as the designation status of self-inspection institutions for livestock products. Livestock product prices and sales trends for Chuseok gift sets are also compiled.
On laws and regulations, the issue introduces improvements to the education system for the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) standard for livestock products, which took effect on August 11. It also covers an advance notice of legislation to improve the product manufacturing report system, along with developments on a bill to prevent so-called "sneaky price increases" that lower the content of raw materials or the quality of products.
Distribution is carried out through Gyeonggi Province's official social media accounts for use by livestock product businesses, cities and counties, and related agencies within the province. Anyone can download the newsletter from the provincial website under "Information by Field – Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock and Marine – Livestock Product Safety Management – Livestock Product Safety News."
Lee Eun-kyung, head of the province's animal disease control and hygiene division, said, "For livestock hygiene systems and on-site information, it is important that operators check them in time and apply them at actual business sites." She added, "We will work to provide necessary information each month in an easy-to-understand form, raising operators' capacity for voluntary hygiene management and creating a safe distribution environment for livestock products."
