GOYANG — Daegok Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, has been designated a key transfer hub for the Goyang-Paju corridor under a national transport plan.
The city government said on the 1st that both the Daegok Station multimodal transfer center and the Kintex Station transfer center were included as ongoing projects in the fourth basic plan for building transfer centers and multimodal transfer centers, covering 2026 through 2030. The plan was announced the previous day by the Metropolitan Transport Commission under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Daegok Station multimodal transfer center was listed as the key transfer hub for the Goyang-Paju corridor among the Seoul metropolitan area's wide-area transport routes. Daegok Station sits at the intersection of major rail lines including the Great Train eXpress (GTX)-A, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, the Seohae Line and the Ilsan Line. The city said it expects the station's role as a wide-area transport hub in northwestern Gyeonggi Province to expand further.
The city plans to link the multimodal transfer center with the Daegok Station area knowledge convergence complex project now under way. The aim is to build a transfer system allowing passengers to switch easily between rail, buses and other modes of transport. The city said it would develop the site as a wide-area transport hub for northwestern Gyeonggi Province that combines transport functions with self-sufficient urban functions.
The Kintex Station transfer center is a project to improve transfer convenience among public transport modes such as rail and buses, centered on the GTX-A Kintex Station. The city said it would review the conditions for moving the project forward, taking into account GTX-A ridership demand and development conditions in the surrounding area.
"Daegok Station being included in the national plan as the key transfer hub for the Goyang-Paju corridor means its role as the center of wide-area transport in northwestern Gyeonggi Province has become even more important," Goyang Mayor Min Kyung-sun said. "We will strengthen its function as a wide-area transport hub by organically linking the development of the Daegok Station area with the multimodal transfer center, and for the Kintex Station transfer center we will closely review the conditions for moving the project forward in order to improve transfer convenience for residents."
