SIHEUNG — The city of Siheung said on the 28th that it will hold the 2026 Siheung Breaking Battle at Eungye Lake Park at 6 p.m. on September 12.
Now in its fifth year, the event is a street culture festival designed to bring breaking closer to residents. It features battles among Korea's top b-boy crews, a youth kids battle and hands-on programs for the public.
With interest in breaking growing ahead of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, leading domestic crews will take the stage for high-level competition.
Eight teams will compete in the adult crew battle: Twenty Century B-Boys, Jinjo Crew, Rivers Crew, Flow XL, MB Crew, Platon Crew, Pocket & Leon and Bass Us Crew. The teams will face off for the championship.
A kids battle has been added for the first time this year to broaden participation in breaking and identify next-generation talent. The kids battle is divided into b-boy and b-girl divisions.
Song Min-chan, Lee Ga-bin, Son Seo-hu and Kim Jae-jun will compete in the b-boy division. Lee Si-yeon, Yoon Ye-seo, Kang A-ra and Park Su-jin will compete in the b-girl division.
The city expects the competition to give residents a single venue to see the present and future of breaking in Korea.
Total prize money comes to 20 million won across the adult and kids divisions. The winning adult team will receive 5 million won. The b-boy and b-girl winners in the kids division will each receive 700,000 won.
Public participation programs will run from 1 p.m., before the main competition. The venue will offer face painting, street hairstyling, temporary tattoos and photo zones, giving residents a chance to experience street culture along with breaking.
A wristband prize drawing will also be held on site. Participants can enter by predicting which of the eight crews will win the battle. Among those who pick the winner correctly, a drawing will award T-shirts autographed by the competing crews.
A celebratory performance is also planned. Holy Bang, the internationally known dance crew, will take the stage to build up the atmosphere. For those unable to attend, the entire competition will be streamed live on the Siheung City Hall Plus YouTube channel.
"It is meaningful that Korea's top b-boys and youth athletes will share a stage in Siheung ahead of the Asian Games," Siheung Mayor Lim Byeong-taek said. "I hope this competition conveys the dynamic appeal of breaking to residents and becomes a turning point for Siheung to emerge as a center of street culture in Korea."
