SIHEUNG — The city of Siheung held a meeting of its task force on attracting the Gwacheon racecourse on the 28th, reviewing the relocation plan included in the government's Aug. 13 housing supply package.
The meeting was arranged to examine policy developments tied to the relocation debate and to allow the city to respond quickly once transfer procedures and a public bidding process take shape.
Officials from relevant city departments and the Siheung Research Institute attended. Participants focused on government policy trends surrounding the relocation, the status of Siheung's bid, and future strategy and department-level responses.
The city said securing a large site is essential to winning the racecourse and will conduct a comprehensive review of transport access, consistency with urban planning, permits and approvals, and links to surrounding areas. Because the issue requires several departments to work together, the city plans to strengthen inter-departmental cooperation to systematically improve the competitiveness of its candidate site.
Siheung has formed and is operating a dedicated task force led by Mayor Lim Byung-taek to get ahead of the relocation discussions.
"With government discussions on the Gwacheon racecourse relocation continuing, Siheung also needs to keep various possibilities open and prepare proactively," Lim said. "We will closely review Siheung's locational strengths and growth potential, and work through close cooperation between departments to draw up the most effective strategy for winning the bid."
