A man who assaulted two strangers about 10 minutes apart while roaming a park has been referred to prosecutors.
According to JTBC's "Incident Desk" on the 25th, the informant, identified as A, was choked by an intoxicated man, identified as B, on the 2nd of this month at a park in Sejong. A had been sitting on a bench watching his children play while looking at his mobile phone.
B, who suddenly approached A, wrapped an arm around A's neck from behind in what is known as a "back choke" and threatened, "Move and you die." A momentarily lost consciousness from being choked. Closed-circuit television footage later reviewed showed B leaving the scene as A's children approached.
The children, who witnessed their father being assaulted before their eyes, are reportedly suffering from trauma over the shock.
B's crimes did not end there. He is said to have also attacked another citizen, identified as C, in front of a restaurant near the park about 10 minutes before assaulting A.
C, who was walking a dog at the time, was punched in the area below the nose by B, who approached hurling abuse without provocation. B even attempted a tackle at C, but when C dodged it and took a defensive stance, B smiled and moved toward the park, according to the account.
B, who committed violence against two citizens in succession about 10 minutes apart, has been referred to prosecutors on a charge of general assault. Netizens who came across the story poured out criticism, saying, "This is attempted murder" and "Isn't someone who does this with children right beside them a murderer?"
