CHANGWON — The Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, HD Hyundai Marine Engine and the Gyeongsangnam-do Council on Social Welfare held a scholarship ceremony on the 26th at the chamber's third-floor conference hall, awarding a combined 20 million won ($14,500) to 20 young adults who have aged out of state care.
The scholarships were funded by HD Hyundai Marine Engine, which provided 1 million won to each recipient. The Changwon chamber and the Gyeongsangnam-do welfare council co-organized the program, which was designed to support the recipients' studies and job preparation as they build independent lives.
Following the presentation of the scholarship certificates, participants and the young recipients spent time in conversation.
"I hope no young person preparing for independence has to give up their dreams and their future because of financial hardship," said Yoo Jung-dae, CEO of HD Hyundai Marine Engine.
Choi Jae-ho, chairman of the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "Helping young people take their first steps into society on a stable footing is something the local community must do together."
