Goseong County in South Gyeongsang Province will sharply increase its relocation bonus starting next year to attract more residents, offering up to 300,000 won per person for households of three or fewer and 2 million won per household for those of four or more.
The county said on the 25th that it plans to roll out the expanded relocation bonus from 2027, after completing consultations on the social security program and going through follow-up steps such as revising the relevant ordinance and securing a budget.
Goseong currently provides 100,000 won per person to incoming households of three or fewer and 700,000 won per household to those of four or more.
The support will grow substantially from next year. The bonus for households of three or fewer will rise to 300,000 won per person, three times the current level, while the amount for households of four or more will increase from 700,000 won to 2 million won.
The payment method will also change. At present, households of three or fewer receive the full bonus in a single lump sum three months after applying, while households of four or more are paid in two installments three months apart.
But starting with households that move in on or after January 1, 2027, all recipients will be paid in two installments regardless of household size. The first payment will be made six months after applying for the bonus, with the remaining amount paid three months later.
By spreading the payments over a period of time, the county hopes to encourage people not merely to register a move but to actually live in the area. It expects this to help incoming households settle stably and to expand the resident population.
The form of payment will also switch from cash to Goseong Love gift certificates. The aim is to ensure the relocation support is spent within the county, so that it supports incoming households while also boosting small business sales and the local economy.
"Now that consultations on the social security program are complete, we plan to carry out follow-up steps such as revising the ordinance and securing a budget without a hitch and to pay the expanded relocation bonus from 2027," a county official said. "We will run the program soundly so that the relocation bonus helps incoming households settle stably in the area, encourages them to stay for a certain period and leads to a real increase in population."
