MIRYANG — A 27 billion won ($19.4 million) school-community complex will be built at Yerim Elementary School in Sangnam-myeon, Miryang, with facilities lacking in the area, including a swimming pool, to be completed by 2030 and shared with residents as well as students.
The South Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education said on the 25th that the project was recently selected in a review of applications by the Ministry of Education. The three-story facility, with a total floor area of 4,170 square meters, will include a children's swimming pool, a childcare center, shared community spaces and a multipurpose hall.
The provincial education office will provide the playground site free of charge, while the city of Miryang will cover half the project cost, or 13.5 billion won. The remainder will be funded by sources including 10.7 billion won in general grants from the Ministry of Education.
The provincial education office and the city plan to break ground in the first half of 2029 and aim to open the facility in May 2030, after administrative steps such as a central investment review and design work. Once completed, residents will be able to use the facility during hours that do not interfere with student education.
