GIMHAE — A foreign woman in her 20s has been booked by police for throwing kittens she kept out of a window to their deaths at a multi-unit low-rise apartment building in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province.
The Gimhae Jungbu Police Station said on the 25th that it had booked the woman, an Uzbek national in her 20s identified only as A, without detention on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act.
A is accused of throwing four kittens she was raising out of a fifth-floor window at a multi-unit low-rise apartment building in Gimhae in July this year, causing their deaths. An investigation found that she had bought or been given the kittens, about two months old, through pet shops and social media.
During police questioning, A reportedly stated that she suffered from depression and threw the cats out of the window when she was in a bad mood.
The Busan Animal Love and Stray Cat Protection Alliance filed a complaint with police on the 21st of this month after learning of the alleged acts. Police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the case based on materials submitted by the animal protection group and A's statements.
