
Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo inspected a steep-slope repair site at Huinnyeoul Village in Yeongdo, a landmark tourist destination, in preparation for concentrated summer rainfall and heat waves.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Government on the 27th, the mayor visited the steep-slope collapse-risk area repair project site in the Yeongseon district of Yeongdo-gu that morning to inspect the project's progress and heat wave response measures. The visit was aimed at preventing collapse risks from concentrated rainfall in advance during the summer natural disaster response period (May 15 to October 15), while also checking on-site worker safety management amid the continuing heat wave.
At the site, the mayor inspected slope reinforcement work, the installation of structures, and the management of drainage facilities, and ordered that a rapid response system be maintained when weather warnings are issued. In particular, as work continues under the heat wave, he intensively checked compliance with the "five basic rules for heat wave safety," including the provision of cool water, cooling devices, adequate rest, the distribution of cooling gear, and a system for reporting to 119 in emergencies.
The Yeongseon district repair project is a disaster prevention project aimed at eliminating the collapse risk of steep slopes around Huinnyeoul Village, one of Busan's landmark tourist attractions. With a total project cost of 38.8 billion won, the project involves removing and reinstalling aging stone-clad slopes and reinforcing vulnerable slopes. It has been carried out in phases since 2021, after the area was designated as a collapse-risk zone in 2020.
Work on the Yeongseon 2 district was completed in March last year, while construction on the Yeongseon 2-1 and Yeongseon 3 districts is targeted for completion next year, and the Yeongseon 2-2 district the following year.
The city currently manages 1,248 steep-slope sites within the city, of which nine are disaster-risk areas (grades D and E). Of these, repairs have been completed at four, construction is under way at two, two are in detailed design, and the remaining one is also set for repair.
"As extreme localized rainfall becomes more frequent due to abnormal climate, we will secure citizens' safety by resolving disaster-risk areas such as steep slopes early," the mayor said. "I ask on-site personnel to pay special attention to preventing heat-related illnesses caused by the heat wave as well."
