Busan Mayor Jeon Jae-soo is conducting on-site inspections of heatwave response measures, reviewing protection plans for the homeless and the summer power supply response system in response to the continuing heatwave.
According to the Busan Metropolitan Government on the 27th, Jeon will visit the Busan Hope Lighthouse Comprehensive Support Center and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Busan-Ulsan Headquarters in succession that afternoon to inspect protection measures for heatwave-vulnerable groups and the summer power supply management system.
Jeon will first visit the Busan Hope Lighthouse Comprehensive Support Center to review the heatwave response status, including counseling for street homeless people and the operation of emergency shelters, and to confirm that the on-site protection system is operating without disruption. During the summer months from June to September, the city operates a "Homeless Joint Response Team" involving the city, districts and counties, police, fire services, and homeless facilities, centered on areas with high concentrations of homeless people such as Busan Station and Seomyeon, conducting patrols and on-site counseling two to four times a day.
He will then visit the KEPCO Busan-Ulsan Headquarters to inspect power supply management measures prepared for surging power demand and to confirm the cooperation system among relevant agencies. The city shares power supply conditions in real time with KEPCO and the Korea Energy Agency, responding according to a step-by-step response manual in the event of a crisis, while also conducting a citizen-participation energy-saving campaign that includes maintaining appropriate cooling temperatures and refraining from operating air conditioners with doors open.
"In a situation where heatwaves are becoming routine and prolonged, we will maintain a tight response system so that no citizen is left out from heatwave protection," Jeon said. "We will cooperate closely with relevant agencies so that citizens' daily lives are not disrupted, from protecting heatwave-vulnerable groups to ensuring a stable power supply."
