Goyang, in Gyeonggi Province, will fully reopen the pier at Ilsan Lake Park after renovating the facility, whose access had been restricted due to aging, the city said on the 9th. The city plans to add nighttime landscape lighting to develop the site into a signature attraction of the lake park.
The pier had long been closed over concerns about safety accidents caused by damaged flooring and inadequate safety equipment. After completing the first phase of renovation, the city allocated a budget to construct the remaining sections and continued the project.
In the second phase, the city removed and refurbished remaining structures and newly installed decks connected to four pier entryways. As a result, the entire pier, linked to the first-phase section, was completed as a single open observation space.
The city said it improved the entryways and installed safety railings so that people with reduced mobility, including those with disabilities and families with strollers, can enjoy the lake scenery without inconvenience. It described the site as an "observation space for everyone" that offers both safety and accessibility.
The city plans to install additional landscape lighting to turn the site into a unique attraction where the lake can be viewed at night. The plan is to increase the space's utility as an open observation deck by day and a light-filled lake viewing area by night.
"We have completed a space whose use had been limited by safety issues and aging into a safe landmark that any citizen can enjoy," a Goyang city official said. "We will quickly complete the landscape lighting installation to make it a space where citizens can enjoy it with peace of mind even at night."
