▲The government announced a "Basic Plan for Employment Stability in Industrial Transition" jointly with related ministries on the 9th. It is a blueprint to reduce employment shocks stemming from the great transformation driven by artificial intelligence (AI). The government said it will develop a "Korean AI Occupational Exposure Index (K-AIOE)" that analyzes AI's impact by job function and provide early warnings on employment changes and shocks. It also said it will establish a working-hour reduction model in line with AI development and push for the enactment of a "Law to Support the Reduction of Actual Working Hours." If the government intends to innovate the employment and labor system in step with technological change, it must also pursue policies to improve labor productivity.
▲The Supreme Court on the 9th finalized the lower court ruling that sentenced former President Yoon Suk-yeol to seven years in prison on charges including obstruction of special official duties and abuse of authority to obstruct the exercise of rights, related to the December 3 emergency martial law incident. This affirmed the charges that Yoon infringed on the deliberation rights of cabinet members during the martial law process and obstructed the execution of an arrest warrant by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials. Yoon's side expressed deep regret and decided to contest the ruling through a constitutional complaint against the judgment. It is an irony of history that the "constitutional complaint against judgment system," which the Democratic Party of Korea pushed through despite controversy over creating a four-tier trial system, is being used as a means for Yoon to reject his guilty verdict.
