
Heavy rain of nearly 200 millimeters fell across Gyeonggi Province from the 8th to the 9th, prompting heavy rain alerts and landslide advisories in several areas.
According to the Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, heavy rain warnings were in effect as of 11 a.m. on the 9th for four cities: Anseong, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong and Siheung. Heavy rain advisories were issued for 11 cities, including Icheon, Yongin, Yeoju, Osan, Suwon, Gwacheon, Bucheon, Ansan, Anyang, Gunpo and Uiwang.
Concerns over landslides are also growing. Landslide advisories were issued for four cities: Yeoju, Icheon, Anseong and Pyeongtaek. Anseong recorded the province's highest cumulative rainfall at 187 millimeters. Its maximum hourly rainfall reached 66 millimeters.
Gyeonggi Province expanded access restrictions in preparation for rising river levels. Authorities blocked entry to the Soyo riverbed road in Dongducheon, 2,094 riverside walking trails and seven riverside parking lots. The province also carried out 32 safety measures, including removing fallen trees and providing drainage support.
Earlier, the province activated Level 1 of its Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at 5 a.m. on the 8th. Thirty-five officials from storm and flood-related departments, including the Natural Disaster Division, the River Division and the Forest and Green Space Division, are on duty monitoring heavy rain conditions in each city and county.
Gyeonggi Province urged residents to avoid landslide-prone areas, riversides and low-lying areas. It also asked the public to follow safety guidance, noting that additional restrictions may be imposed depending on weather conditions.
