North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on Tuesday, marking the 32nd anniversary of former leader Kim Il-sung's death.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim visited the palace, where the bodies of the country's former leaders lie in state, at midnight that day.
Photos released by the news agency showed party secretaries Jo Yong-won, Jong Kyong-thaek, Kim Song-nam, Jo Chun-ryong, Ju Chang-il, Kim Jong-gwan, Kim Sung-du, Ri Hi-yong and An Kum-chol, along with Cabinet Premier Pak Thae-song, standing in the front row with Kim.
Kim Yo-jong, director of the party's General Affairs Department, Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and Defense Minister No Kwang-chol were positioned in the row just behind. Kim's daughter Ju-ae was not seen at the event.
The KCNA reported that Kim paid tribute to the statues of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il and wished the former leaders eternal life.
North Korean media typically report on Kim's activities the following day, but the news agency reported the visit on the same day.
As this year's anniversary of Kim Il-sung's death is not a "jongjunyon," a milestone anniversary marked every five years that North Korea considers important, a large-scale commemorative event attended by Kim is not expected to be held.
