NEW YORK — President Donald Trump has drawn attention by flooding social media with campaign messages over the Labor Day weekend, widely seen as the starting point of the U.S. midterm elections in November. On his own platform, Truth Social, Trump posted dozens of items from the 5th through the 7th attacking the Democratic Party and touting his foreign policy record.
On Labor Day, Trump wrote that he wished a happy Labor Day to everyone, including what he called radical left lunatics, communists and "Dumocrats" — a blend of "Democrats" and "dumb" — who he said would do anything to destroy the country. He went on to mock his opponents, saying these people, whom he described as not normal, have to admit they know how your favorite president wins after fighting for 10 years. They should be exhausted by now, he said, but unfortunately they are not. He added that they will make one last attempt to ruin America but that we are not going to let that happen, stressing that we are going to win big in the midterms and save America.
The Labor Day messaging did not stop there. On Sunday the 6th, Trump posted more than 60 items to his Truth Social account. A significant number of them appeared to have been generated with artificial intelligence.
On the 7th, Trump posted several map images renaming the state of New Mexico as "New America," along with maps showing Canada, Greenland and Mexico all marked as U.S. territory. He also posted a cartoon in which he tells Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, shown fallen during an ice hockey game, to "get up, governor," as well as an image renaming Canada's Lake Ontario as "Lake America." Other posts claimed the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory, altered a map of the Middle East to reshape Iran in the profile of his own face, and depicted him striking Iran with a hammer bearing the U.S. flag. He also superimposed his face onto a photo of Hulk Hogan wearing a red headband reading "MAGA," for Make America Great Again, with a U.S. flag draped over his shoulders. Trump further released an image of himself riding a horse alongside former President George Washington and another showing the two conversing in the Oval Office.
Trump is spending the holiday weekend at his golf club in New Jersey. When he stepped off Air Force One after arriving in the state on the 4th, his hair was seen to have changed from blond to dark brown.
