A new residential complex of 1,953 units will be built along the Bulgwang Stream in Bukgajwa-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. A cultural park and a public walkway will also be created, which is expected to improve living conditions in the surrounding area.
Seodaemun-gu said on the 17th that it approved the project implementation plan for the Bukgajwa No. 6 housing reconstruction project, covering the area around 372-1 Bukgajwa-dong, on the 16th of this month. The area was designated as a reconstruction district in 2014 and won approval to form a reconstruction association in 2020. After clearing an integrated review last year, the detailed project plan has now been finalized with this approval.
Once completed, the site will hold 1,953 apartment units across 16 buildings rising up to 34 floors. The district said it plans to design the complex to blend with the surrounding landscape, drawing on the site's location next to the Bulgwang Stream. Under a special architectural district designation, the main buildings will vary in height, facade and form.
Parks and pedestrian space linking the Bulgwang Stream with nearby neighborhoods are also planned. A cultural park will be built between the complex and the stream, with a public parking lot underneath. A public walkway running from the stream toward Bukgajwa Elementary School will also be secured.
The site also offers transport access. Digital Media City (DMC) Station, reachable just across the Bulgwang Stream, serves three rail lines: subway Line 6, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line and the Airport Railroad. The area also has road access via Susaek-ro and the Inner Circular Road.
"We will carefully handle the remaining administrative steps so that the expectations of residents who have waited 12 years lead to real changes in their living environment," Seodaemun-gu Mayor Park Un-ki said. "We will keep communicating with residents so that this project revives both the new complex and the surrounding neighborhood."
