
Hyundai Mobis (012330) has unveiled a range of new manufacturing technologies as the shift toward smart factories accelerates.
The company said on the 27th that it held M-Sphere 2026, a manufacturing innovation technology exhibition, for two days from the 26th at the Quantum Center near its Uiwang research complex in Gyeonggi Province.
Now in its second year, M-Sphere showcases the current state and future vision of Hyundai Mobis' manufacturing technology. This year's edition was held under the theme "Turning Challenges Into Real Value."
Hyundai Mobis presented more than 40 new manufacturing technologies across three categories — intelligent automation, AI digital twin and core component technologies — including artificial intelligence-based automation developed jointly with suppliers.
In intelligent automation, a transport robot system using a 3D vision system drew attention. Piloted at the company's chassis module plant in Ulsan, the system has robots locate and load the various parts needed to assemble automotive chassis modules on their own, recognize their travel path with cameras and carry components weighing up to 20 kilograms to the assembly line.
In the digital twin category, the company showed a robot teaching solution based on physical AI. The technology builds a virtual environment identical to an actual production line to train the movements of robotic arms and grippers. The core technology category featured cases of improvements to existing production processes, with Hyundai Mobis highlighting an automated fastening process for battery module temperature sensors.
Chung Chung-sik, senior vice president in charge of production development at Hyundai Mobis, said the company will "continue to actively apply AI and digital twin-based innovative technologies at production sites to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness, share know-how with suppliers and contribute to building a smart manufacturing ecosystem for the mobility industry."
