Lotte Global Logistics said on the 10th that it is expanding its business transporting LG Energy Solution's battery energy storage systems (BESS) within the United States.
A BESS uses batteries to store surplus electricity and supply it when needed. LG Energy Solution currently assembles and produces finished BESS units at its local plant in Phoenix, Arizona. Lotte Global Logistics has handled the transport of BESS units produced at that plant within the U.S. since the first half of this year. In the second half, it plans to expand the volume to roughly three times the first-half level, handling a substantial share of the plant's shipments.
Lotte Global Logistics said the deal reflects a competitive edge built on its logistics expertise and consulting capabilities. Because a BESS is high-value, heavy-weight special cargo, its transport requires precise control and a high level of safety management. In particular, shipments must meet the standards set by the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) while minimizing the risk of damage. Lotte Global Logistics said it has formed a dedicated team to strengthen its on-the-ground response and operational expertise.
The company has also deployed Shiptte, its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) logistics platform, along with a consulting program based on a large language model (LLM). The aim is to provide integrated logistics services that secure both service quality and price competitiveness. The tools track vehicle operation records in real time and optimize transport routes, while automating paperwork such as reports and invoices to improve efficiency.
"This deal shows that Lotte Global Logistics' advanced logistics capabilities and on-the-ground response have been recognized in the global market," a company official said. "We will use it as a springboard to further solidify our position in North America's high-value logistics market."
