Hyundai Mobis said on the 20th that it will deliver 10,000 watermelons, worth 200 million won, to more than 200 suppliers nationwide to encourage top suppliers of domestic after-service (A/S) parts.
Hyundai Mobis (012330) has held seasonal fruit-sharing events for more than 20 years since 2003 to promote shared growth with suppliers, which are key partners in its A/S parts supply chain. In purchasing the watermelons, Hyundai Mobis also contributed to boosting local economies by utilizing traditional markets and local farms near its suppliers.
"We prepared this event to express our gratitude to the executives and employees of our suppliers who are working hard in the field amid the sudden monsoon and heat wave," said Jang Ho-young, head of purchasing at Hyundai Mobis. "We will continue to expand various activities so that a culture of shared growth with our suppliers can take root."
The reason Hyundai Mobis expresses its gratitude to suppliers every summer is that organic collaboration with suppliers nationwide is essential to supply A/S parts quickly not only domestically but also overseas. Hyundai Motor and Kia vehicles currently in operation worldwide total 59 million units, and the number of A/S parts required for more than 220 models reaches 3 million types.
Beyond one-time support, Hyundai Mobis also operates various win-win programs to enhance suppliers' competitiveness and support their sustainable growth. In particular, the technology development funds Hyundai Mobis has provided over the past three years to improve suppliers' technological competitiveness total 156.2 billion won on a cumulative basis, and patents filed through joint research reach 861 cases.
