Kim Jung-il, a vice president at SK hynix (000660) and a former trade official, has been named to become the standing vice chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
The KCCI plans to hold an extraordinary general meeting of its members on the 8th of next month to approve his appointment as the new standing vice chairman.
Over more than 30 years, Kim has moved between government and corporate roles, building expertise in core national industries including industrial policy, trade, energy and semiconductors. At the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), he served as director of the semiconductor and display division, director of the Americas trade division, head of energy innovation policy and head of the new trade order strategy office, leading efforts to strengthen industrial competitiveness and shape trade policy.
He later served as head of global business policy at SK Square (402340) and as vice president for external cooperation at SK hynix, working to respond to shifts in the global trade environment, build cooperation frameworks between government and business, and bolster the competitiveness of advanced industries. Having overseen industrial and trade policy in government before taking charge of external affairs and global operations in the private sector, he is seen as well-positioned to understand and reconcile the views of both government and the business community.
"At a time of growing uncertainty in the global economy and trade environment, I will actively represent the voices of businesses on the ground so that companies can grow steadily and create new opportunities," Kim said. "I will faithfully serve as a bridge between the government and the business community and do my utmost to enhance the global competitiveness of our companies."
