Kim Hoe-cheon, CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), inspected the local supply chain in the Czech Republic to mark the first anniversary of the Dukovany nuclear power plant contract.
According to KHNP on Tuesday, Kim visited the Czech Republic Monday and Tuesday to review the progress of the project. Kim first attended the "Second Dukovany Project Implementation Review Council," where Industry and Trade Minister Kim Jung-kwan met with Czech Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlicek on Tuesday. The meeting is a ministerial-level body that the two governments agreed to hold regularly to push forward the Dukovany project without disruptions.
On Monday, Kim met with Vitezslav Jonas, chairman of the Dukovany regional council, before traveling to Plzen to visit the Doosan Skoda Power production plant. Doosan Skoda Power is a key local Czech power equipment company that signed a steam turbine supply contract with Doosan Enerbility.
According to KHNP, the construction project for Dukovany nuclear power units 5 and 6, with a total project cost of 27 trillion won, is proceeding smoothly through its scheduled steps as it reaches the first anniversary of the contract. In December last year, the comprehensive design and main equipment supply contract was signed, and in April this year, the submission of major design and licensing documents and detailed site surveys were successfully completed. KHNP said it is currently conducting training for the ordering company's employees and preparing for auxiliary equipment bidding on schedule, with the goal of beginning main construction in 2029.
"The Dukovany project is a monumental undertaking that symbolizes the strategic cooperative relationship between Korea and the Czech Republic," Kim said. "We will work closely with the Czech government, the ordering company, local communities, and Czech companies to implement it as a model case for the world's safest and most successful nuclear power plant construction."
