POSCO Future M (003670.KS) announced Monday that Kang Byung-jin, an employee at the company's Gwangyang cathode materials production division, completed his 300th blood donation at the Suncheon Blood Donation Center and received the "Supreme Honor Grand Medal" from the Korean Red Cross Gwangju-Jeonnam Blood Services.
The Korean Red Cross awards medals based on cumulative blood donations to honor donors who spread and practice the culture of blood donation: a silver medal for 30 donations, a gold medal for 50, an honor medal for 100, and the Supreme Honor Grand Medal for 300.
Kang first recognized the importance of blood donation through his participation in the Red Cross Youth (RCY) club during high school and began donating blood in his second year of high school. He has continued donating for 25 years since then.
During his military service, he registered as a regular blood donor, committing to periodic donations. By 2018, while serving as an Army captain, he had reached more than 160 cumulative donations.
After joining POSCO Future M in 2021, Kang has continued to donate blood more than 90 times. In July this year, upon hearing that a family member of a contractor employee at POSCO Future M's Gwangyang cathode materials plant was battling illness, he donated 30 blood donation certificates he had saved.
"Blood donation is a noble life-sharing movement that saves many lives with just a moment of discomfort," Kang said. "I want to continue managing my health to reach 400 donations and also participate in hematopoietic stem cell donation."
