Hsinchu, the Taiwanese city known as the island's Silicon Valley and home to major production sites of TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, has selected NAVER's business collaboration platform.
NAVER Cloud said on the 7th that LINE WORKS, marketed in South Korea as NAVER WORKS, has been adopted as the official collaboration tool of Hsinchu City. It marks the platform's first large-scale partnership with a Taiwanese administrative body. NAVER Cloud, which has built up the public and local government market in Japan, plans to use the Hsinchu deal as a springboard to expand into Taiwan's public sector.
Hsinchu is a core science and technology city that hosts Taiwan's largest semiconductor and information technology industrial complex, including TSMC. In a region with a high level of digital literacy and elevated expectations for administrative services, the city moved early to deploy LINE WORKS on a large scale as part of a key initiative to build a smart city and drive an artificial intelligence-based digital transformation of its administration.
The two sides will also jointly conduct research and pilot projects on administrative applications using AI and digital technology. Through this work, they plan to identify technologies and use cases that can improve administrative efficiency and the quality of services for residents.
The Hsinchu adoption is expected to add momentum to LINE WORKS' push into the Taiwanese market. About 10 months after its formal launch in Taiwan, the platform has secured more than 150 corporate and institutional clients and more than 10,000 users. Drawing on its record of leading Japan's business collaboration tool market by share for eight consecutive years since 2017, NAVER Cloud plans to extend the public sector reference it has gained in Hsinchu to other local governments and public agencies in Taiwan.
"We are rapidly expanding our footprint in overseas public markets including Japan and Taiwan, in addition to being selected as the official collaboration platform for the South Korean government," a NAVER Cloud official said. "The plan is to further solidify our leadership in the software-as-a-service market for public services at home and abroad, backed by proven user convenience and AI technology tailored to administrative work."
