
KT said on the 30th that it held the "SNU-KT-KAIST Industry-Academia Joint Research Final Results Workshop" with researchers from Seoul National University and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) at its Woomyeon Research Center in Seocho District, Seoul.
About 50 researchers from KT, Seoul National University and KAIST attended the workshop, sharing final results from a year of joint industry-academia research and discussing how the technologies could be used. With Seoul National University, KT focused on situational context understanding and reasoning for autonomous agents, improving AI reliability, building Korean-language datasets, and a reinforcement learning framework based on user feedback. With KAIST, the company primarily worked on technologies to improve the reasoning efficiency of AI models and agents.
KT plans to pursue technical validation and internalization so that the core findings from the joint research translate into actual AI competitiveness. The company will also identify follow-up projects reflecting business and technology needs, strengthening research and development cooperation in areas such as agentic AI, physical AI and token efficiency.
"This joint research is significant in that it connected the university's research capabilities with real technical challenges in industry and jointly verified how applicable the findings are," said Lee Jae-wook, head of Seoul National University's AI Institute. "Through continued cooperation with KT, we will develop an industry-academia model in which academic achievements lead to AI innovation and stronger industrial competitiveness." Kim Kee-eung, a professor at KAIST's Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI, said, "The competitiveness of AI technology depends not only on model performance but also on efficiency and usability in real environments." He added, "We hope the technologies secured through this joint research will improve the processing efficiency of large language models and serve as a foundation for spreading AI use in industry."
