Lotte Biologics has won recognition for the environmental performance of its first plant at the Songdo Bio Campus.
The company said on the 25th that it received an "Excellent" grade under the state-certified Green Standard for Energy and Environmental Design (G-SEED) for the plant, awarded by the Korea Institute of Ecological Architecture and Environment.
G-SEED is a certification system jointly run by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Environment. It evaluates energy and resource savings and reductions in pollutant emissions across a building's design, construction and maintenance.
Lotte Biologics received the "Excellent" grade after a comprehensive assessment covering seven areas, including land use and transportation, energy and environmental pollution, materials and resources, water cycle management, maintenance and ecological environment.
The company incorporated eco-friendly building features from the design stage of the Songdo plant and applied environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient equipment during construction.
Lotte Biologics plans to extend these green building principles to future production facilities at the Songdo Bio Campus.
"We will continue building production infrastructure that takes environmental factors into account and strengthen our CDMO capabilities to meet the diverse needs of global clients," a company official said.
