Game companies are accelerating their marketing efforts in line with the launch of Samsung Electronics' next-generation flagship foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold8, and other new foldable smartphone lineups.
Nexon said on the 24th that it had unveiled a Galaxy special theme for its mobile massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) MapleStory M in collaboration with Samsung Electronics.
Released to celebrate the new launch of Samsung Electronics' (005930.KS) next-generation flagship foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8, the theme is packaged as a single set including wallpapers, icons, and ringtones. Customers who purchase the Galaxy Z Fold series and users who participate in the event can download it for free at the Galaxy Store from the 4th of next month through October 31.
In addition, until the 3rd of next month, the company is setting up a Galaxy Z Fold series demonstration stand at "Maple Azit" near Gangnam Station and holding an event where the special theme can be downloaded. On top of this, dedicated corners where the theme can be experienced firsthand will be operated at five major Samsung stores nationwide.
Netmarble is also unveiling special themes for its games Seven Knights Re:BIRTH and MonGil: STAR DIVE in collaboration with Samsung Electronics.
Customers who purchase and activate the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, or Flip8 can download two special themes from the special theme event page in the Galaxy Store until October 31.
To mark the collaboration, offline events will also be held at five stores: Samsung Store Hongdae, Daejeon, Sangmu, Shinsegae Daegu, and Shinsegae Centum City. Until the 3rd of next month, visitors can download the special themes for free by tagging their Galaxy smartphone to a near-field communication (NFC) device placed on-site at the Samsung stores.
Overseas game companies are also holding various events in line with the launch of the new Galaxy foldable phones.
HoYoverse, the developer of the popular open-world role-playing game (RPG) Genshin Impact, also unveiled two special themes for Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail in collaboration with Samsung Electronics. In addition, it will provide 20,000 won Galaxy Store discount coupons to 300 users per store among those who visit five Samsung stores nationwide.
Kuro Games, a Tencent affiliate game company, is also holding a "Bixby Aeimes Voice" giveaway event featuring the voice of "Aeimes," a character from Wuthering Waves. Customers who purchase the new Galaxy Z series can participate in a lottery event to exchange for the "Bixby Aeimes Voice and Special Theme" coupon, running from the 4th of next month.
"Samsung can highlight the wider screen and optimized display of its new foldable phones through collaborations with game companies, while game companies can naturally inform users that their games offer superior graphics and a more immersive play experience on foldable phones," an industry official said.
