Kakao (035720.KS) signed a "business agreement for spreading information on extreme weather and supporting vulnerable groups" with the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) on July 3, the company said Friday.
Under the agreement, Kakao will provide guidance on revised warning criteria and situation-specific action guidelines in line with the KMA's overhaul of its heat wave warning system, through channels such as KakaoTalk Channel and Kakao Bizboard. The aim is to improve information accessibility so that users can quickly recognize and respond to heat wave risks.
Kakao will also conduct fundraising activities to support vulnerable groups through its social contribution platform "Kakao Together." The donations collected will be used to provide cooling supplies and other necessary items to vulnerable neighbors experiencing difficulties due to the heat.
Kakao said it will also review ways to link various extreme weather information provided by the KMA — including cold waves and earthquakes, in addition to heat waves — with Kakao's platforms in the future.
