■ Korea-China Physical AI Collaboration: Spark Physical AI Ventures, based in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, visited Korea and held a meetup event with about 40 officials from domestic AI and physical AI firms to explore collaboration opportunities. China is a mass-production powerhouse accounting for 90% of the world's humanoid robot output, but it faces limitations in algorithm and data capabilities. As a result, demand for collaboration with Korean firms equipped with semiconductor manufacturing data and system integration (SI) capabilities is growing.
■ Return to the 40,000 Venture Era: The number of domestic venture firms reached 40,084 as of the end of last month, recovering the 40,000 mark for the first time in about two years. The result stems from a boom in the AI and robotics industries, which drove new startup creation along with more existing companies obtaining venture certification. The industry views this renewed breakthrough as a meaningful achievement driven by genuine growth.
■ Expanded K-Culture Financial Support: The Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE) decided to provide a total of $125 million (about 192 billion won) in financial support, including $100 million to CJ ENM's (035760) U.S. unit and $25 million to Kolmar Korea's U.S. unit. It is drawing attention as medium- and long-term financial support, previously centered on traditional heavy industries such as plants, has expanded to soft-power industries such as content and beauty.

1. Chinese VCs Eyeing Korea's Physical AI…Korea-China Alliance Takes Shape
- Key Summary: Spark Physical AI Ventures, based in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, visited Korea in the middle of last month and held a meetup event with about 40 officials from domestic AI and physical AI (AI that interacts with the physical world, such as robots and autonomous machines) industries. The firm is a venture capital (VC) company that aims to build a physical AI ecosystem by linking Asian supply chains including Korea and Japan, founded by Tony Chen, a former manager at a leading Hong Kong venture fund. China accounts for 90% of the world's humanoid robot output but is criticized for limitations in algorithm, data, and computing capabilities, so demand for collaboration with Korean firms equipped with semiconductor manufacturing data and SI capabilities is high. Meanwhile, geopolitical risk is emerging as a variable regulating the pace of Korea-China collaboration, with some startups rejecting Chinese investment out of concern over the impact on their U.S. businesses.
2. R&D Support for Services Too…Growing the 'AI Agentic Commerce' Market
- Key Summary: The government decided to move ahead with enacting the Service Industry Development Basic Act, which establishes grounds for research and development (R&D), tax, and financial support for the service industry, which accounts for 60% of gross domestic product (GDP). Koo Yun-cheol, deputy prime minister and minister of economy and finance, stressed at the second meeting of the public-private service industry competitiveness enhancement task force (TF) on Thursday, "We must boldly open the barriers between industries, and enactment of a law for concentrated R&D, tax, and financial support is urgent." The law, first pursued under the Lee Myung-bak administration, has failed to clear the National Assembly for 15 years amid controversy over whether to include the health and medical sectors. In addition, the government decided to prepare institutional improvement measures to demonstrate the entire shopping process in order to gain an edge in the 'AI agentic commerce' market, in which AI performs comparison, ordering, and payment beyond product recommendation.
3. KT Bets 18 Trillion Won on Telecom, AX…Nurtures New Business 'Token Factory'
- Key Summary: Park Yoon-young, CEO of KT, announced the 'AX Platform Company' strategy of investing a total of 18 trillion won in core areas such as AI transformation (AX) and networks at his first press conference since taking office on Thursday. The investment will be allocated as 4 trillion won for information security and IT, 8 trillion won for networks, and 6 trillion won for AI infrastructure, with 5 trillion won going toward the additional establishment of about 20 AI data centers (AIDC) totaling 1GW. Along with this, the company will foster 'Token Factory,' an infrastructure that supports the generation, brokerage, and billing of tokens that have emerged as a new economic unit in the AI agent era, as a new growth engine. Meanwhile, it plans to enter Southeast Asian markets such as Thailand and Vietnam with a stablecoin-based digital finance platform that combines the 16 million customer base of group affiliate K bank and the payment and settlement capabilities of BC Card.

4. SK to Select 10 Social Ventures Annually…Up to 70 Million Won in Support via Affiliates
- Key Summary: SK Group launched the 'Impact Booster' program, which selects and intensively nurtures 10 Series A and B social ventures each year. Selected companies are given business collaboration opportunities with key affiliates such as SK hynix (000660), SK Innovation (096770), and SK Telecom (017670), along with an initial 10 million won in support. If they later find affiliate collaboration projects, up to an additional 60 million won is provided as demonstration project funding. The program was designed to address the structural limitation whereby social ventures specialized in solving social problems struggle to leap to the growth stage because they are not sufficiently recognized for their corporate value in the market. It is backed by the management philosophy of SK Chairman Tae-won Choi, who has emphasized for more than a decade his conviction that "corporate performance should be achieved by evaluating financial value and social value together."
5. Riding the AI and Robot Boom…'40,000 Ventures' Breakthrough Again
- Key Summary: According to the Venture Confirmation Comprehensive Management System, the number of domestic venture firms reached 40,084 as of the end of last month, recovering the 40,000 mark for the first time in about two years. The venture firm confirmation system began in 1998 and reached 10,000 firms in 2001, 20,000 in 2010, and 30,000 in 2015. This renewed breakthrough past 40,000 is the result of a simultaneous increase in new startups and existing companies obtaining venture certification amid the AI and robotics industry boom. The 2021 reform of the venture confirmation system, which opened the way for firms to receive certification if their innovativeness is recognized even without financial performance, was also a major factor. Song Byun-jun, chairman of the Korea Venture Business Association, assessed, "Quality venture firms whose innovativeness and growth potential have been verified from the market's perspective continue to increase."
6. K-SURE Provides $100 Million in Working Capital to CJ (001040) ENM's U.S. Unit

CJ ENM's U.S. unit is the parent company of Fifth Season, which produces dramas, films, and documentaries, and this support is expected to accelerate K-content's settlement in the North American market. Accordingly, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, cosmetics exports last month surged 42.5% year-on-year to $1.34 billion, and cosmetics exports in the first half of this year also set a record high at $7 billion.
