Rain will fall across most of the country on Monday, which falls on "Soseo," the solar term traditionally marking the start of full-fledged summer heat. Daytime highs will climb to as high as 35 degrees Celsius, bringing sweltering conditions.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on Sunday, rain is forecast for most regions from early morning through the morning hours Monday, driven by a stationary front moving from the West Sea toward North Korea.
Expected rainfall is 20 to 60 millimeters in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi and the five West Sea islands; 20 to 60 millimeters in inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon; 5 to 40 millimeters along Gangwon's east coast; 20 to 60 millimeters in Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong and North Chungcheong; 5 to 40 millimeters in Gwangju, South Jeolla and North Jeolla; 5 to 40 millimeters in inland South Gyeongsang, Daegu and North Gyeongsang; and around 5 millimeters on Jeju Island. Rain of 20 to 30 millimeters per hour may pour down over the greater Seoul area and northern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon between morning and midday Monday, so caution is advised for safety.
Between the afternoon and night, hot and humid air will flow in along the edge of the North Pacific high, destabilizing the atmosphere and bringing heavy showers to most regions.
Morning lows will be 24 degrees in Seoul, 23 degrees in Daejeon, 23 degrees in Daegu, 24 degrees in Jeonju, 24 degrees in Gwangju, 23 degrees in Busan, 22 degrees in Chuncheon, 24 degrees in Gangneung, 25 degrees in Jeju, and 23 degrees on Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
