STT GDC, a Singapore-based data center specialist, said Friday it has opened its first data center in Korea, "STT Seoul 1."
STT Seoul 1 was built and is operated by STT GDC Korea, a joint venture established in 2021 by STT GDC (60% stake) and Hyosung Heavy Industries (40% stake). STT Seoul 1 serves as STT GDC's strategic foothold for entering the domestic market and was built to support artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure development for customers in Northeast Asia.
Korea is a strategically important market in the high-performance digital infrastructure sector, with active corporate digital transformation and growing demand for computing capacity. The opening of STT Seoul 1 is part of STT GDC's comprehensive strategy to expand into markets backed by long-term digital demand, infrastructure maturity, and customer requirements.
Located in Gasan-dong, Seoul, STT Seoul 1 has a total floor area of approximately 40,000 square meters and supports an IT load of up to 30 megawatts. It began full commercial operations this month.
"AI infrastructure is developing rapidly, centered on markets with strong digital capabilities, power supply conditions, and customer demand," said Heo Chul-hoe, CEO of STT GDC Korea. "STT Seoul 1 will become a key base for STT GDC to establish its presence in Korea and expand its business into major Northeast Asian markets."
