Topracer, a global golf ball-tracking technology company, is making a full-scale push to expand in the Korean market.
"Korean golfers are passionate, and a strong culture has taken hold of using data to analyze their own swings and shots," Peter Barry, Topracer's global sales chief, said at a media day held on the 21st at Walkerhill Golf Club in Seoul's Gwangjin district. "In that sense, Topracer and Korean golfers are a great fit."
Topracer began as Protracer in Sweden in 2006 and took its current name after U.S.-based Topgolf acquired it in 2016. Its global headquarters is now in Dallas, Texas. In Stockholm, Sweden, about 150 engineers still devote themselves to hardware and software development, strengthening the company's technological edge.
Topracer supplies official ball-tracking technology to major global golf tournaments such as The Open and the Ryder Cup. At this year's Open, it offered a service that let spectators at the venue scan a QR code to view players' shot data.
"Topracer is the system used by the world's best players and coaches, including the David Leadbetter Academy and Bryson DeChambeau's personal practice range," Barry said, "because it guarantees outstanding accuracy." An official at Nanotech, the company's domestic distributor, said, "We plan to continue expanding brand awareness and service adoption in the Korean market going forward."
