Choi Hyoung-woo of the Samsung Lions became the first player in KBO League history to record 2,700 career hits.
Choi stepped to the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and no runners on base, with the game tied 1-1, in a matchup against the SSG Landers at Daegu Samsung Lions Park on the 18th.
He connected on a pitch from opposing pitcher Jeon Young-jun and drove it over the right-field fence, reaching the 2,700-hit mark along with his 14th home run of the season. It was his second consecutive game with a home run, following a shot against the Hanwha Eagles in Daegu on the 15th.
After grounding out to the infield in his first at-bat in the second inning, drawing a walk in his second at-bat in the fourth and hitting into a double play with a runner on first and no outs in the sixth, Choi broke into a wide smile on his eighth-inning home run, a rare display of emotion for him.
Choi currently holds the KBO League's all-time record for career hits. His lead over second-place Son Ah-seop of the Doosan Bears, who has 2,653, has widened to 47.
